Neighborhood relics

My Doctor posted about the 1940's air raid sirens. I live across the street from one and just last week commented that I think it is a siren of some sort. Matt thought it was just a wire depot or whatever. Here are some pictures others have compiled. My personal siren is not pictured.

Your doctor must be older then I am - I do not remember sirens during WWII. I don't remember rationing of butter but my mom told me stories. I do remember margarine in a plastic bag with a button of yellow food coloring in the middle - we kids got to squish and squeeze it to blend it to make it look like butter!

I wonder if the sirens are used for other purposes today?
